Understanding dental implants
A dental implant is a post placed surgically in the jawbone to support a replacement tooth or teeth. The implant acts as an artificial tooth root; a crown, bridge, or denture forms the visible restoration.
An individual assessment
An implant evaluation considers your oral health, bone support, medical history, and treatment goals. Not everyone is a suitable candidate. Your dentist can explain treatment options, possible additional procedures, and whether care with another provider is appropriate.
Treatment and ongoing care
Treatment commonly involves several stages and a healing period while the implant integrates with the bone. Timing varies. Implants and their restorations require daily cleaning and professional follow-up; they are not maintenance-free or guaranteed to last a lifetime.
